In Brief

GF Lift is a monopolar radiofrequency treatment on Volnewmer for vaginal laxity, a loose vaginal opening and loose outer labia, with optional R2T2 brightening of external skin. Evidence is mixed, the FDA has cautioned on these devices, and results vary.

About This Treatment

What the GF Lift Is

GF Lift (Girl's Friend Lift) uses monopolar radiofrequency on Volnewmer, the platform behind our VF Lift. Nothing is injected, implanted or cut. Heat is delivered as a volume, and the skin surface is left intact.

Please read first. In 2018 the US FDA warned that energy-based devices had not been cleared or approved for "vaginal rejuvenation", and it reported burns, scarring and recurring pain. Published studies are mostly small and sham-controlled results are mixed. Treatment may not help you.

The Three Zones

Vaginal Canal

Treated with a sterile, single-use tip.

Vaginal Opening

The introitus is planned from your examination.

Outer Labia and Mons

Treated externally for loose or deflated tissue.

Firming and Brightening

Skin on the bikini line, groin and inner thighs can darken with friction, hormones and hair removal. R2T2 pairs R2 Glow with T2 Frax Radiance on external skin, where needed. We do not use bleaching creams on intimate skin. Change is gradual, laser can darken skin, and any new or changing patch must be checked first.

GF Lift or G Lift

GF Lift leaves the skin surface intact, and usually suits laxity after childbirth and loose outer labia. The G Lift uses a CO₂ laser, and usually suits laxity with dryness or thinning. Dr Sin Yong advises after examining you.

What the Evidence Says

The VIVEVE I sham-controlled trial (2017) found more treated women reported no laxity at six months. VIVEVE II (2020) did not meet its 12-month sexual function endpoint. These trials used a different radiofrequency device, so they do not prove results for this protocol.

Who Should Not Have It

GF Lift is not suitable during pregnancy, in the weeks after delivery until healing is complete, or with active infection, unexplained bleeding, or an abnormal cervical screen still being followed up. A pacemaker, defibrillator or metal implant near the area rules out radiofrequency. Prolapse or significant pelvic floor weakness is referred elsewhere first.

Why the Area Changes

Vaginal delivery can stretch the vaginal opening and the tissue around it. Hormonal change and age can reduce the fullness of the outer labia and mons. Friction, shaving, waxing and hormones can darken the skin on the bikini line, groin and inner thighs. These changes are common. Treatment is a personal choice, and no one needs it for health reasons.

Who Each Zone May Suit

Laxity After Childbirth

The vaginal canal and opening are assessed once healing is complete.

Looser Outer Labia

External radiofrequency may be considered for loose or deflated tissue.

Uneven Tone

R2T2 may be added for external skin only, after any new or changing patch has been checked.

Other Options to Discuss First

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

Guided muscle training. It is usually the first step for leakage and postnatal weakness, and it works on muscle, which energy devices do not.

Moisturisers and Lubricants

Non-hormonal products for dryness and discomfort during sex.

Local Oestrogen

A prescribed cream, tablet or ring for dryness after menopause. Your doctor will advise if it is suitable.

Surgery

Vaginoplasty and labioplasty are performed by O&G specialists and plastic surgeons. We refer women who need surgery.

Questions to Ask Before Treatment

Before any intimate treatment, it helps to ask which device will be used, who performs it, what the published evidence shows, how many sessions are planned, what the risks are, and what happens if a complication occurs. You can also ask what would happen with no treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Evidence is mixed, and results vary. Dr Sin Yong will explain what is realistic for you.
It may be considered once healing is complete. Laxity is examined first, and pelvic floor problems are referred.
Most women feel warmth. Tell Dr Sin Yong straight away if anything feels uncomfortable.
R2T2 can be added on external skin. Results are gradual and vary, and new or changing patches are checked first.
Dr Sin Yong performs every treatment personally, with a female chaperone present.
The fee depends on the zones treated and whether R2T2 is added. It is given in writing after your examination, and no treatment is always an option.
The course is set after your examination, based on your zones and how you respond.
No. GF Lift uses radiofrequency and leaves the skin surface intact. The G Lift uses a fractional CO₂ laser.
Leakage has several causes, so it needs assessment first. Pelvic floor physiotherapy is often the first step.
No. A pacemaker, defibrillator or metal implant near the area rules out radiofrequency.
No. Labioplasty is surgery by an O&G specialist or plastic surgeon. GF Lift involves no cutting, and we refer women who need surgery.
