Droopy Eyelids Treatment Singapore

A droopy lid can be muscle, skin or brow

These are three different problems, and only some respond to non-surgical care. Examination comes before any treatment, and the lift is measured in millimetres. Results vary.

In Brief

Droopy eyelids treatment Singapore care depends on whether the cause is the lid muscle, excess skin or a descended brow. Non-surgical energy or BTX may suit brow descent and early skin laxity. It cannot correct true ptosis or remove significant skin excess, and these are referred. Results vary.

What the Research Shows: Droopy Eyelids Treatment Singapore

  • A 2009 systematic review of 11 randomised trials and 1,603 subjects reported wrinkle improvement lasting about 4 to 6 months, with blepharoptosis in 0% to 5.4% after glabellar treatment. [1]
  • A 2023 systematic review of 16 studies, mostly in women, reported investigator-rated improvement in 92% at day 90; treatment was moderately painful, transient redness was common, and other adverse effects affected 2%. [2]
  • A 2025 systematic review of 45 clinical trials and cohort studies reported skin laxity improvements of 18% to 30%; its side-effect table lists mild redness in 30-50%, swelling in 10-20% and tenderness in 15-25% of patients. [6]
  • A 2025 prospective study of 13 subjects found blinded photo ratings of dermatochalasis improved after microplasma (P<0.01), with no serious adverse events; there was no control group. [8]

About This Treatment

Why the cause comes first

People use the words droopy eyelid for three different problems. In true ptosis, the muscle that lifts the lid is weak, so the lid edge sits low over the iris. In dermatochalasis, extra upper-lid skin folds over a lid edge that sits in the normal place. With brow descent, the brow has settled and weighs the lid down.

Each one needs a different answer. Dr Sin Yong examines the lid and brow before proposing anything. One lid sitting lower than the other is treated as a possible sign of ptosis and gets extra scrutiny. The consultation may end with no treatment being advised.

A simple way to think about it

Lift your brow gently with a finger while looking in a mirror. If the whole eye opens, the brow may be part of the problem. If the lid edge still sits low over the coloured part of the eye, the lid muscle may be the issue. Heaviness that worsens through the day is read as a brow and fatigue pattern. This is only a guide, because examination decides which of the three applies, and some people have more than one. Treat this as a starting point, and see a doctor about any new or one-sided droop.

The non-surgical options

Energy along the brow and temple

HIFU or Thermage tighten this area. The lift is only a matter of millimetres.

BTX brow technique

Botulinum toxin rebalances the muscles pulling the brow down.

For the texture and early laxity of lid skin.

For the brow and upper face, along vertical vectors. Some patients need this and FSX in sequence.

What the brow route means

The brow is rebalanced and tightened, and the lid itself is left alone. The lift stays modest, so it suits people who want a subtle change.

What to expect with energy near the eyes

Energy around the eyes is planned with care and staged conservatively. With the Thermage eye tip, contact lenses are removed and shields are used, and lids can stay puffy for longer afterwards. FSX Laser starts with numbing cream. It can leave redness, warmth, mild swelling and fine scabbing, which should be left to shed. It does not lift a descended brow, so the VF Lift may be added for that. HIFU cannot remove heavy skin or replace lost volume, and it is not planned for lean faces.

Who this suits

It suits lid heaviness driven by brow descent and early upper-lid skin laxity with a normal lid edge. It also suits heaviness that worsens as the day goes on. You need to expect a modest, subtle lift. Treatment is staged conservatively. If you expect a result equal to eyelid surgery, please wait and discuss this first. A problem at brow level is not given a lid procedure.

When you will be referred

True ptosis

Referred for oculoplastic or medical assessment.

Significant skin excess

Referred for a surgical discussion. No laser package is offered for skin that needs removing.

Blocked vision

Visual field obstruction is referred on.

Sudden or one-sided droop

This is referred on and is not treated as a cosmetic concern.

Who should wait or avoid it

Pregnancy or breastfeeding

Please wait.

Active problems around the eyes

Inflammation, infection or skin disease at the site comes first.

BTX allergy or neuromuscular disease

Avoid BTX with a known allergy or a disorder such as myasthenia gravis.

Unassessed ptosis

New, asymmetric or fluctuating ptosis needs medical assessment first.

Metal implants or electronic devices

These may rule out some devices, depending on the area.

Expecting a surgical result

This is a reason to wait and discuss other options.

What it cannot do

Correct true ptosis

Neither energy nor injection corrects a weak lid muscle.

Remove significant skin excess

Skin that needs removing cannot be lasered away.

Match blepharoplasty

Non-surgical care is not an equal to eyelid surgery.

Promise a duration

No duration is promised.

Fix a brow problem at the lid

No lid procedure is offered for a brow-level problem.

Lift a brow with FSX

FSX Laser does not lift a descended brow.

Replace an eye examination

A new, one-sided or fluctuating droop needs medical assessment first.

Risks and side effects

Mild redness, warmth or swelling after energy treatment usually settles, as do small bruises or tenderness after injections. Uncommon risks are temporary lid or brow heaviness, brow asymmetry, headache, dry or irritated eyes, and surface burns with energy devices. Contact the clinic the same day for a lid that droops further, new double vision, eye pain, vision changes, blistering, spreading redness, one brow or lid becoming much lower, or swelling that increases. Doses and placement are planned with care, because botulinum toxin can leave a lid or brow heavier for a time.

Aftercare, sessions and fees

01
First 24 hours
Avoid rubbing or pressing your eyes, keep your head raised when resting, and skip strenuous exercise and saunas.
02
First week
Avoid eye make-up on injection points. Tenderness or small bruises are expected.
03
Ongoing
Use sun protection and a gentle moisturiser. Pause retinoids and acids near the eyes until advised.
04
Review
Treatment is staged conservatively, and review timing is set at consultation and adjusted to your response.
05
Fees
They depend on the cause, the areas, the device or consumables, the number of zones, and whether energy is combined with BTX. A written quote follows examination.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on whether the cause is the lid muscle, excess skin or a descended brow. Examination decides this before any plan.
No. True ptosis is a weak lid muscle. It is referred for oculoplastic or medical assessment.
Brow lifting is only a matter of millimetres, so the change is modest. Results vary.
Botulinum toxin brow technique can rebalance the muscles pulling the brow down. It is not aimed at the lid itself.
No. It does not match blepharoplasty, and significant skin excess is referred for a surgical discussion.
An asymmetric lid can be a sign of ptosis, so it gets extra scrutiny. A new or one-sided droop should be examined promptly.
Heaviness that worsens through the day is read as a brow and fatigue pattern. Your doctor will confirm this on examination.
Do so the same day for a lid that droops further, new double vision, eye pain, vision change or one lid becoming much lower.
